Seafood you can trust, relationships you can value

While prof. Cooper was in Belize to study shrimp welfare, he decided to do some voluntary work with local schoolteachers by teaching them some fun and educational experiments to use with their pupils in class. In 2017, Belize Aquaculture hosted a workshop during which prof. Cooper taught three local teachers how to monitor nerve transmission in human muscles and in insects by using a tool called ‘backyard brain’. To carry out the experiment with insects, we used cockroaches. One of our employees was an excellent hunter and managed to find lots of cockroaches for the experiments!

 

The workshop was very well received by the teachers and Belize Aquaculture decided to donate 5 Backyard Brains units to the schools so they could use them for teaching neurobiology.
